Unlocked Cell Phones

Information on Unlocked Cell Phones

Many of you might be like me and wondering what the heck unlocked cell phones are. Well, don't fear, we have the answer for you. It's pretty simple that is. Unlocked cell phones are like those that use the SIM card. They allow you access to any service. Those cell phones that are locked will only allow you access to one service even using the SIM card. The unlocked cell phones won't determine which cell phone carriers you can access so you have more freedom of where to go for your cheap cell phone package. Many phone carriers are going to this so that those who use their service really only use their service.

Many people want unlocked cell phones. Yet, they want affordable unlocked cell phones. They want this so bad that they are willing to pay to get it, knowing that they will save money on it in the long run. Thus, many companies will unlock a locked cell phone, but for a nice fee. If you don't want to pay, I assure you that others have found ways to turn locked phones into unlocked cell phones. There are the hacking instructions for those who don't want to pay or who want to take on the hobby. However, those that are hacked aren't always usable unlocked cell phones, so you d need to be careful in what you are getting, especially with cheap unlocked cell phones.

Many people think that just because the phone is theirs, they should be able to unlock it if they wish to. It only makes sense after all. Some phone contracts say that you can't take it off the settings that it already is on. This would keep you from turning your phone into an unlocked cell phone. In some countries this is true. It is illegal to change the settings. It's simple to test your phone to see if it is unlocked or not if your cell phone takes a SIM card. The way you do this is by inserting someone else's SIM card that has a different service. Your cell phone will think that it is your cell phone just with a different phone number if it takes it and is unlocked.

There are a few affordable cell phone carriers who use the GSM feature and therefore they have unlocked cell phones. These companies who have somewhat affordable unblocked cell phones are only a few, though. They include Cingular Wireless, AT&T Wireless, and T-mobile. There are some affordable cellphone companies who unfortunately don't yet have unlocked cell phones, but with the new R-UIM feature, they are bound to have unlocked cell phones becoming available pretty soon. These phone providers include: Verizon, Sprint, and Virgin Mobile, but as of yet, they aren't into unblocked cell phones. This is just due to the fact that these carriers do not use the SIM card.

Many people like the use of the SIM card and the SIM card handsets. They found it to be totally unlawful when they found out about locked phones. Many people started complaining about the switch from unlocked cell phones to the locked cell phones which lead to a class action suit. This was filed in California in June of 2004 by a watchdog group called Foundation for Consumer and Taxpayer Rights that fights for the rights of those consumers who pay their taxes. They believe that a phone should be unlocked after the contract expires. This isn't so and that's how many believe. So, there you have it for those of you who didn't quite understand the unblocked cell phones.
